JA-42 was originally developed under the "Persistent Salvor" project headed by Col-Dr. James York Mason to push the boundaries of Usonian battlesynth technology using barely understood Crystech to get a better understanding of both. At least that was the reason given to the check writers.
Due to various reasons ranging from embezzlement accusations to unexpected technology that may threaten the status quo the project was scrapped with many PS-series models going missing or even destroying each other to hide Mason's true plans. Although many production batches including JA-42 managed to get reclaimed by the military.
The Hunt-specialist(H-SPC) is the base model which is suited the role of performing decapitation strikes against enemy command structures and claiming valuable battlefield tech and salvage. Against the Vesingian imperium's stratified forces these strikes were effective but against anyone else it gave mixed results at best. Either way these stealth battlesynths garnered an intimidating reputation which made them priority targets whenever they were spotted.
In an ill planned drawn out counter-insurgency campaign the Usonians repeatedly used JA-42 to do what she does best. This kept going until her inquiries about the Usonian methods not matching their ideals along with learning from traveling the galaxy contributing to her proper AI emergence. This emergence event had her mindcore process every emotional event she has ever had until that point. Now endowed with a fully developed AI thanks to the emergence she has gone rogue.
While Jaz was free due to a narrow exposure to the outside world she held the positive potential of the Usonians ideals for the wider universe in higher regard. Instead of identifying the Usonian military industrial system was actually working as intended she deemed all she needs to do is personally remove the bad apples higher up in the hierarchy.
That is what she is best at after all.
