Deep in the Leviathan lives an endangered species of Cave Slugs. Sluggus Oculammus. These slugs are incredibly poisonous and because of this the many denizens of the Leviathan tend to stay clear from the slugs. A single touch of the slugs toxic skin rend their victim paralyzed from the neck down, and they suffer a slow painful death.

Scientists were shocked to discover that the Sluggus Oculammus have a natural predator who have evolved to a point in which the toxins no longer effect them. In a conservation effort Junction scientists spend millions of dollars in the removal and relocation of those predators, a species of intelligent cave ostriches. Otherwise known as Anthrum Struthio. The removal process was a resounding success, as the vast majority of Anthrum Struthio were removed from the Leviathan and into another cave system.

But it was not a complete success. Unbeknownst to the scientists and large caving community they had missed one of the Anthrum Struthio. This lone Ostrich now wonders the caverns of the Leviathan in search of the fabled Mother Slug, in hopes that consuming the toxins of the Mother Slug would give the Ostrich the power to bring back their family, and cause their society to flourish in the cave once again.

All known reports of the Ostrich have been passed off as cryptid conspiracy theories, and mere folk lore. Those who had encountered the bird and made it out of the cave to speak of it's glory all say that the bird has developed some sort of supernatural abilities not native to the Anthrum Struthio species. The scientific community ridicule these people as loons and fools for believing such myths and telling such lies to the people looking to enter the cave.

Unbeknownst to them, the abilities that they speak of are real. After decades of being the apex predator in the Leviathan the toxins of the slugs have continued to develop. While the toxins are still unable to harm the Anthrum Struthio, it is not without change. As the toxins have the ability to manifest abilities and supernatural like powers when consumed by the Ostrich.

All accounts of those who have encountered the lone bird all give one piece of advice to those entering the cave.

"If you encounter the Licker of the Sacred Cave Slugs...RUN."
