OUGh this is a very pretty comic, but this is a Saggy comic so that goes without saying. Love the texture that you used for this comic, its very crayonlike (its probably a crayong brush) but it gives the comic a very cold feel to it. The texture makes it look like wind or snow still falling very nice, love that feeling. There is a part very early on the top of page 3 with a very dark black and a glowing blue coming off of the ground that I wish you used more of becuase UGH that looked so good and I feel would give an extra punch to some other panels. Very funny comic too, Sigils head and the baby are a pretty perfect comedy duo. Loved the comic great job on this Saggy.
UGH This is a wild ride of a comic Wolke. You continue to be one of Oculama's strongest writer. Never in a thousand years did I think we'd have a battle babes comic that hit like this. Or even came close to the type of story that you're telling. and your art is nothing to slouch at either. You brought such a wonderful set of colours to a location grounded in it's coolness. The skies in particular give alot of charaterization to the comic and is a joy to read and take in visually. Also GWAD DAMN giving Baddie the cheekiest of poses now arent we Wolke hahaha great job!
This comic's rendering is so beautifully effective, it's harsh and cold in the same ways that the last comic was warm and small with such small differences in the methods. The blending of mundane comedy and big action works really well for the most part, although the final punchline feels like it only pays off a portion of the setup. Ishar has a great amount of character here, feeling more like a full person than ever before, and Baddy Longlegs does too, with just glimpses into how they take on these challenges. Even Sigil has good characterization, a lovely unexpected addition. A great mix of absurdism and sincere storytelling.
This comic has such a good pacing to it. It starts off a bit jarring in a way you know you're in for something special, and the comic never feels predictable despite feeling completely inevitable by the end. Both characters get a great amount of personality and depth to them as the plot progresses, it feels like you're learning new things about them every page. The use of location is absolutely inspired, although the time it takes for them to get home feels less like a tragic inevitability from the presentation, and more an arbitrary curse that simply refuses to progress until the tragedy is met. A couple more wide shots may have helped there, but it's a small quibble. A wonderful tale of woe and empathy.
Your art style has a simplicity that really lends itself to the aesthetic of a snowy stage. Really dig the tooth and texture of your pencil work? line work? there's something about it that makes me feel like Ishar is roughing it in the icy tundra. You really pull off that effect with seemingly little, which is impressive.
You had a bit of a funnybone in your first round so its neat to see that mantle upheld by everyone's favorite baby. Sigil being the Bonnie to baby's Clyde was an amusing twist, also way to set an unsettling little scene introducing Longlegs holding a 'snack'. Also the thought bubble you added Longlegs thinking ?I don't think you needed it. Whether that was you uncertain if the audience got you, I think Sigils dialogue and the intention was stated clearly in your art
The ending is pretty silly, which I think is great, but it feels like there should be more to this. I actually found myself making sure the crash was the last page.
The writing in this actually stunned me. You have such a knack, not only for impressive page count in small deadlines, but to do so with fully realized, well paced story. This read more like a poem than a narrative, which I mean as a compliment. There was something lyrical in how you tied things together. Considering all the things most artists prioritize when it comes to comics, the writing not only tends to be ancillary, but often overlooked. It's clear you know your strengths and take point with them. That paired with your traditional media which is often NEVER seen in online comics, much less OCTs makes you something of a standout. Keep on rockin Wolke.
A lovely looking comic. I loved your usage of implied lines and the sketchy quality of the lines are definitely working in your favor with the way you're using them. While I liked the story, I wish we hadn't had what feels like a sort of abrupt ending - especially when your fight was just warming up. Using your opponent's previous opponent was a great decision and made a super sense of continuity for the story. I really hope we see more Ishar in the future because her character is so interesting and cool. Overall, a great showing. Nice work!
First off, that storytelling is really what clinched it for me. It was a surprising piece to read and it had a lot more depth than I was expecting going into this. Baby being our narrator was a great choice and I thought you did a very good job there. Naturally, I know that markers are still difficult to work with and its tricky trying to avoid having uneven colors, I would rather see a consistent use of traditional media instead of the digital coloring background skies you used on some of the pages. Shoot, if you can do that, you should just color digitally in the first place since it looked very clean. Despite that, this was a great showing from you and a real step up from previous works. I'm really loving the progress you've been showing lately. Keep it up.

Saggy - Wow, your art is just lovely! I really enjoyed diving into every panel, soaking up all the details. The way you use those pencil-like brush strokes? It gives your work this organic, almost effortless vibe that made me feel like I was flipping through pages of a vintage storybook. And the outfits on Ishar and Baddie Longlegs? Absolutely stunning in your unique style!
The story, while straightforward, fits perfectly into the battle comic format. It was engaging and moved at a good pace, which I appreciate. However, I was left craving just a bit more. An extra panel or page showing what happened right after the crash would have been the cherry on top. But overall, this comic was a really solid read. I enjoyed it a lot!
Wolke - Wow, this story really grabbed me from the get-go. Your writing never disappoints, and I was hooked on the characters and plot right away. The choice to tell it from the baby's perspective was brilliant; it made the emotions come across as raw and unfiltered, which was super impactful. Big congrats on completing the comic, and in color too!
Also, maybe this is just me, but I'm really taken with how you've illustrated Baddie's web. It's so soft and delicate, it almost looks like fine lace.
The only thing that threw me for a loop was the last panel. At first, I wasn't sure what it meant, but after a couple of re-reads, oh man, that ending hit me hard. ;_;
What a comic! I enjoy the rendering style you employ here - it really fits the snowy landscape really well! Your draftsmanship and paneling are also something that always sticks out to me in your comics. The setup and character sequences is really fun. Great job of establishing itself so that its punchline can just hit! The punchline here is really great and seals the comic, even if the end conclusion is maybe a little unclear. Maybe parts of the comic feel a little under-rendered, such is the fate of comic tournaments. Overall, I really enjoyed this comic and look forward to seeing what else you manage to make!
Now that's a heck of a comic. I appreciate its focus on a different type of plot than the battle comic that is typical to oct's. I don't how to put it but the tone is a definite unique and admittedly strange one, sentimental yet coming together as upsetting. Touching in a brutal way, and definitely a little grody. Though maybe the circumstances of the plot don't quite fully come together to justify the stakes involved. The coloring of the comic is interesting, and definitely does help to maintain clarity in the comic, something that can be lost in other rendering styles.
Saggy
Wolke I really enjoyed reading your comic! It’s a testament to your writing skill that you managed to make this simultaneously both hilariously absurd and genuinely heartfelt at the same time. It’s a very difficult balance to strike but you absolutely knocked it out of the park here.
Your sense of humor is a delight. Reading this comic I had this big grin throughout, what an absolutely batshit premise for a plot and it’s funny all the way through. Your timing and delivery nails it. From Baddie regurgitating pre-digested remains of other contestants into Ishar and the Baby (take note Ishar! much more baby appropriate) to the ref admonishing the group for being months late to the next round there’s so many good gags that I can’t decide on a favorite.
It’s such a clever use of the setting too. I think you were the only one who paid attention to the environmental hazards of the location. I’m a big fan of stories where people get stuck in freezing conditions and have to cannibalize to survive.
Your writing decision to have the story told from the perspective of the baby is so effective. It adds a lot heart to see things from a child’s perspective, how it doesn’t fully understand what is going on but slowly grows to trust and love Baddie. Which makes the ending still emotional and genuine, which I wasn’t really expecting. I love Baddie so much, her extremely offbeat way of caring makes her such an interesting character, and the little details like the web-clothing she makes for Ishar and Baby to keep warm are really sweet.
Your art is lovely, your paneling and art is very dynamic and creative. The art on the second page is very fluid and has a natural flow and makes great use of the characters to separate the panel. The final page is very effective and dramatic.
The coloring is really nice! I love the way you captured the iridescent effect for Ishar. And I respect your attention to detail for all the different weapons in the battlefield.
Really enjoyed this fight! This is going to be one of my favorite matchups. Thank you for being my opponent!

Saggy, I friggin LOVE this comic so much.
I like your take on Baddie a lot – the winter clothes, of course were a great touch (BOTH of our OC’s cold weather fits look TERRIFIC – I like how you worked the belt from Ishar’s usual outfit into her greatcoat), but you’ve done a great job too with the hair, movements, and microexpressions as well.
Your use of Sigil and the Baby was absolutely inspired – not a combo that even crossed my mind, but the way you were able to use them to build tension in the main fight, and milk some really top-notch comedy with Sigil’s scheme that ALSO ends up impacting the main fight was great. The character interactions are just broad strokes terrific all around - I would also totally read a comic of these four just like - getting into situations.
(I would 100% read a series that was nothing but Sigil and the baby having misadventures, car or no car)
(I also love the photo minivan – the pictures are a terrific recurring bit)
It’s tough for me to pick a favorite page or panel in this comic – there’s so many great face from the baby, for one – pressed up on the glass, the sheer joy once the child is behind the wheel – all tremendous. And like I said, I adore how you’ve worked some soft expressions onto Baddie. If I had to pick a page I’d go with six – using the birds as a divider, the web in the shadows, and Baddie looming overhead all gave me chills; if I had a plotter printer I’d turn it into a poster, no question.
(On a minor note, while I am all about your skill at rendering light in greyscale, I am also a huge fan of the full color title pages you’ve done for the tournament so far – the first one was gorgeous, and this one is even better, if it’s possible)
The pages dedicated to the fight proper are real dynamite – great angles, you really sell the physicality of their grappling and blows, and I get a real sense of predator/prey desperation, though it’s tough to say which of them are which by the end~
I had a BLAST reading this. Thank you for the fight, the wonderful rendering of Baddie, and for giving me the opportunity to make a comic with Ishar and the child :)
