WGNI- Your paneling and choice of what you feature page to page I think is a great standout amongst those in the chasm tourney. The first and second page alone really gets us up close to the aftermath of that plummet in round 1 as Freya comes to. Great choice in choosing to draw out the lettering as well. It really makes that ragged breathing look punchier.
I want to talk about your page 8 because page and panel composition isnt easy, but being able to layer and arrange your chasm monster sound effects and aesthetically determine what elements of your beast should be cut by panels vs which should overlap was a real treat to see. It's wonderful to see an artist who isnt just using the medium of comics to tell a story, but remembering the whole of a comic page is art as well. Also you are killing me with these cliffhangers, but hell if they don't entice the reader to see Freya move forward to see what happens. Here's hoping the judge of this tourney thinks the same!

MCCARROTS- I was delighted from page one and your foray into the world building and environments we discover underground. I was tickled that Freya's delve into the tower temple felt like I fell into a Tomb Raider game. To say nothing of the rich underground lore of Large Knight being an ancient chasm guardian. Its clear you had a big story and idea, but the deadline got the better of you. Even so, the roughed out elements I see page to page like your color swatching and plotted out dappled sunbeams as they walk the ruins of the monk temple has such promise. I definitely hope you come back and fully realize your comic in the way you intended.

@WGNI - You've spun a Really, REALLY nice comic here. For me, it's in the micro-details you've fit together here even more so than the macro-story (which is still a great ride, don't get me wrong!). The smaller arcs within the story though, like Freya's healing, the campfire chat, and the confusion of the holes during the battle, are so intriguing that I almost prefer to examine them as individual pieces, for all the interesting (positive) decisions therein.

I'm super-impressed with your detail-work. Your masking and choices for level of granularity all feel done with a clear sense of purpose. The early-on detailing of Freya really sells her level of injury and dishevelment after r1, and the relative cleanness of Large Knight's detailing by contrast is a great way of showing his relative state of freshness at that point.

LOVING a lot of these panel compositions; you have a great knack for fitting elements into your scenes without overcrowding, and while creating really engrossing illustrations. Some of the highlights for me included LK and Freya talking around the fire on the bottom of page 6 (SUCH a good study in showing off size difference with an unconventional angle), the blurred holes on page 11, and the various eye-shots of Freya throughout (the subtle foreshadowing by showing a panel of her eye when she wakes up early on was AWESOME).

Even some of the less striking compositions, like LK emerging from the crack in the rock at the top of page 6, feel very purposeful, in this case doing a discreet job of showing off the setting, and setting a sort of empty tone for it in the moment.

(Also, while a more simple layout, the panel of LK covering up his eyes is so sweet omg)

@BUNBUN - Your storytelling is really impressive in this round, and the strong design work for the characters and the setting go a long way in helping that; There's some great use of angles here (I REALLY dig the wide-lens pano-esque hallway exploration shots on page 7)

Props on the chasm-work this round. The choice of dark-brown tone for the pages was a really good one, between being a great color choice for the cave generally, and really suffusing the pages with its omnipresence here, even when the action moves inside the tower structure. There's some really good background illustrating going on as well, from the small details like the chasm plants, to the bigger shots like the underground tower high-angle, with the beast skeleton. The campfire on the column is a beautiful display of your skill with color, layout, and design all in one.

You've cultivated a really strong pace of storytelling here. Each character's starting point for this comic works great as a continuation of r1 (not to harp on backgrounds again, but I love the panel of Large Knight sitting in the cave pool), and once you've placed them together, you strike a nice mix of fresh fellowship spiced with a slight unease at LK's taciturn shift when addressing his failure.

The resolution of all this, while happening with the fire-backdrop that does a smashing job of holding tension, is really quite touching. The reassurance Freya offers feels genuine, and it's a great use of her skillset in the last few pages to find a catharsis for LK that feels completely plausible, while still feeling magical.

Both of these entries have such strong storytelling!

The action driving the plot, and the showcase of more of the fauna native to the infinity chasm in WGNI's entry really help flesh out the world in this comic!

And while lacking some of the lineart, the writing in BUNBUN MCCARROTS entry really evokes strong emotional responses as we learn more about LK's history the the burden he carries.

Excellent work you two i look forward eagerly to the work of both of you in the future, even past this competition!!

Another absolutely beautiful comic Wgni !!!! Your action choreography always impresses, having the compositions play around with panel-breaking elements during the scramble to get Freya out of the caves is something absolutely beautiful and your line work carries the energy and visceral feeling of your comics all the way home!

I have absolutely loved the unique situations you set up for Freya and having the other characters either hinder her or assist her in her quest through the caverns makes every comic feel like it could ONLY be about Freya and her opponent! Each set piece is given plenty of room to breathe and the comic just rolls off the tongue (eyes?) with a fluidity you won't find in many other places, good job!

PHEW well first of all, I would like to personally thank you for pulling through with a comic despite the setbacks and submitting in what ever you had! It is great that you did not let your opponent walk away empty handed--

Even despite the unfinished nature of the comic, there are still some absolutely astounding color usage and some great panel moments to be found within, and if this had been finished i can see the work before my eyes-- it would truly be a contender for some of the best polish in the tournament! I hope you find the time to get this one finished :3c
