The year is RY 271. Two decades after the the wartime defense alliance between the VFR, the Zemlyan Spheres, and other astrostates against the Vesingian Imperium ended. The contention point of breakup? The ancestral Zemlyan homeworld ending up in the middle of a DMZ after the VFR voted for a ceasefire with the Vesingians as every system the invaders were pushed out of costed more and more lives. Despite the initially voted upon alliance stipulated that the Zemlyans would get their homeworld back.
Shortly after the ceasefire was reached and ended the sundering war the Imperium split into multiple civil wars of succession where a "FTL-inhibiting scar" superweapon was deployed. The biggest players in this civil war don't even officially recognize the VFR as a state and only see them as upstart marauders who got lucky. Leaving the VFR with nobody to follow up or renegotiate the ceasefire with.
Now is the time of the scarred era, characterized by a multi-directional cold wars and "scars" in space preventing most forms of FTL travel in and around former Vesingian logistics hub.
Sirius was outed in a conspiracy to breach the DMZ to follow up on the initial promise of the wartime alliance and subsequently agreed to be exiled as punishment. In secret right before this exile however Sirius took a deal to be sent on a suicide mission without V-CA support to the unpredictable scarred regions to retrieve lost artifacts and technology. Accompanying Sirius is his faithful PAU Nicky that assists Sirius with digital and electronic multitasking and operating the suit's tachyon sensors. She'd really prefer Sirius doesn't do anything too reckless.
Sirius is a third generation Elemental Xenograft Operator that has undergone thorough gene therapies, bioware, and other cyberware augmentations, most notable in this package are "xenografts" which vary by user, and in the case of Sirius the 3 elemental force aspects he has gotten are tuned to electricity, cold and magnetism which are available for as long as he has xencharge to keep his powers running. These "EXOs" in conjuction with their armored suits are essentially supersoldiers designed to fit an awkward middle ground where the usual infantry hazards such as machine guns and fragmentation are less of a threat but remain too small to directly hit with the big stuff. The effective solution to downing one are direct hits with an autocannon or grenade launchers which is a bigger ask to accomplish. Letting them be more effective "giant slayers" that ambush and pry into armored vehicles when working as a unit.
