This was VERY touching. I love the relationship with Evelyn you've set up here, and how you've positioned her as an adult figure able to offer advice, even if she can't solve the issue at hand. Your colors are tremendous, and while in a few spaces it took me a little longer to parse the layout of a given panel, the added "oomph" to the mood of the comic is well worth it, and is my favorite visual element of your comic. Good use of the imaginary companions as well; there's not much interplay, but the interplay that is there is very believable!
First off, this comic has a superb balance of humor and tension; I laughed at just about every page, but never lost a sense of the stakes caused by the Prince's hijinks. Evelyn's stress as the only adult in the room is appreciable, and enhances both the aforementioned tension and humor. I enjoy also how the comic does a very clean job of establishing who everyone is any giving the reader a good sense of their relationship to one another without getting into anything expository. One thing I would have loved to see more of is a deeper explanation of why each animal got its specific enhancement (some, like the shark, are pretty apparent, while others are less clear), but tbh it all works very well regardless.
Doe - OMG..this comic really tugged on my hearstrings. The warm monochromatic colors really set that homely mood and it contrasts well with the blues (particularly the prince) . Visuals are gorgeous and very nice use of the textures without being overwhelming. The angles and compositions are so dynamic that it really added to the drama of each scene. Loving this backstory about Evelyn and Anna knowing each other from way back. It really piqued my interest. This is such a bittersweet tale. I really hope Anna hears from his dad soon but at the same time I also fear the worst =S. I can't wait to see more.
SPIRAL_JOE - I have always loved your storytelling and creativity with your creature designs. The lightheartedness of your side is a great contrast from Doe's entry but it also makes voting really frikkin hard for me cos I enjoyed both tales XD and it's so difficult to compare the two. There is no true 'antagonist' in this story but still you masterfully created a conflict that is interesting on all accounts. All characters ended up adorable and likeable and I love Evelyn's clever thinking (even though she had to result to false animal trivia lol). My kid loves animals and I think she'd get a kick out of reading your comic haha. It does leave me wondering what Wendy's been up to though as I haven't seen her in this!
Love love your limited color palette. :D Your characters lend themselves to something of a storybook and fantastical aesthetic. This warm sepia, browns and golds really makes our little blue fellow pop and standout. Also nice work telling a story with more show than say to allow . The framed pictures on the wall? The calendar and the written letter? All very clever ways to give the reader a sense of longing and nostalgia with the passage of time being one of the characters of this line up. This could've been a beat em up comic, but I really enjoyed the melancholy angle you went with and how you utilized your 'opponent' as the bastion of wise words (if not also a bit of fun :) ) Really great stuff
Its hilarious to see Princes do gooding become something of a bane for Evelyn I loved the expressions your girl pulled, but would encourage you to stretch those comedic moments on other characters faces as well!
Evelyn's outright lies on animal facts had me chuckling and your grayscaling never ceases to deliver when it comes to those ominous shadows and sense of size (Mr. Stompy wasnt even seen on panel but looks scary enough!). I really enjoyed the persona and fickleness Prince exemplified, but also managed to blend it into Evelyns M.O. You couldn't pick two more unlikely opponents, but I think you made this encounter sing. Good on ya!
The pacing is just right, the limited usage of colors is absolutely gorgeous, and the relatability is very real right there! I very much love this work here, and am actually kind of struggling to come up with any kind of constructive criticism for anything in your work so I'll just put that out there to be completely honest. You did super incredible, Doe.
Though, can I just add a mention that I really got hooked on the fact that one panel clearly has Prince's amulet- which seems to be an evil eye- very brightly colored, showing it to be something of great importance. I do think maybe that may need to be explored further perhaps in the future if that's the case.
Joe, I really love the hilarious and creative the plot twist at the end, proving that the gang's efforts were fruitless. And I also loved how the characters seemed to bounce off each other so well, and you managing to come up with so many funky designs for the "NPCs" which were the cryptids, must've been painful and long and I applaud you for that!
However, something feels a bit off and I wasn't sure why until I looked again, and it might be because the street, buildings, and in general the whole scenery- Feels slightly flat. Hard to explain than just... Flat. I think it may be just the lack of depth and shading, perhaps? Not too sure. I hope others can chime in and help out better than I could?
Doe this is a lovely comic, from story to line art, really lovely. it was a very heartfelt story and you did a great job of showing a softer side of Evelyn. I really enjoyed the phoenix scene at the end. page 11 was a really nice "splash"
page .
You did an excellent job using your complimentary colors and using texture to add value and depth, gave your line art a real nice oomph.
The only thing that sticks out to me right away, and this might be more of a personal preference , so grain of salt, the ducks felt a lil out of place in comparison to the rest of the page, possibly just over rendered? My eyes kept going right back to them instead of some of the key narrative elements such as the photo.
Thank you for sharing this with us and I look forward to more!
This was a really fun read and a really fun match up. Your story pacing is really good in this one, nothing felt rushed or drawn out. All of your gag's throughout the comic were really funny too. I got a chuckle out of Evelyn and all of her Animal "Facts".
The only suggestion that really comes to mind to me is maybe some more line variation in your linework. Especially since you focus a lot more on greyscale and black and white. Such as a heavier outline on your objects and figures in the foreground and thinner lines for your backgrounds just to add a little more depth without adding color or additional value.
Solid comic dude as always! Looking forward to more!

The artwork sold this comic for me, especially with the composition and contrasting colors. I liked that you're dropping some obvious hints for a future story for Anna's father and the clear character dynamic between her and Evelyn. I appreciate how efficiently you've been able to set up enough flashback material without breaking story flow (i.e. Evelyn's younger pic), and I like how you're playing with composition is all of your pages. The interaction between Wendy and Prince is great, especially given their contrasting personalities. I'm noticing that you're using a lot of high angles to highlight Anna's vulnerability throughout the comic, and that's a nice touch.

So this one was a much lighter, goofier story and it's always appreciated! The weird meshing of the animals was amusing (and I'm dead sure one of them's a shout out to Gyo). You obviously decided to go for a simpler black and white greyscale for yours, and while everything is pretty straightforward I appreciate how clean your linework looks. If I had to pick out some areas of improvement, perhaps the part where Evelyn does her "scientific explanation" could use more contrasting value or hue to really separate what's being displayed, and maybe if there was a larger panel that shows the resulting devastation of the zoo. Overall, good entry.
A wonderful read with a rollercoaster of emotions. The introduction of the letter Anna reads and the calendar presented has the readers immediately registering the situation and feel for the child. His interactions with Evelyn are also very sweet, establishing that they have a prior relationship and that it's been a while since they've seen one another. So much so that tag-along Wendy is someone he hasn't had the chance to meet until now.
There's a lot of emotion with their conversation in the car and shows how much Evelyn deeply cares about Anna, giving him some of her elder wisdom to help reassure Anna about his concerns.
It's also really fun how she uses her knowledge in cryptozology to help cheer Anna up and the picture that take is super cute.
Even if other people don't get the ducks in that photo, I do. And that's what matters! My ideas are great and you did an awesome job!
This was such a fun read from beginning to end! It gets straight to the situation, Anna's friend causing unintentional trouble for the people and animals at the zoo.
You did a wonderful job displaying the Prince of Everything's child-like naivety. He clearly doesn't understand that what he's doing is bad and just genuinely wants to help others and make them all happy.
It's also very fun how Evelyn is quick to jump in with Anna's narrative, using her adult/zoologist status to convey the concern for the animals and the people affected, even if what she's saying isn't true, a child wouldn't understand that and take things as they're told.
Also the ending is very comical with the sudden cliffhanger that would lead to yet another whacky adventure!
A great short story with fantastic art! It's a 5/5 from me!
