This comic was part of a 1v1 battle with Myeth that concluded back in December. I'm horrifically late with finishing it, but now it's done.

You have a way with certain expressions - dread, shock, a sort of world-weariness - that I find convincing like few other artists can capture. That skill with emotion is on full display here, and heightens this bottle episode well beyond what is already a solid dialogue between uneasy...well, not exactly partners, I guess, but client-customer. One thing I'm wondering is...was it originally Clyde's plan to kill the killer before she sniffed him out? The line about death faking had me thinking he could have collected the extra 40k w/o actually having to harm her, so I was just a touch puzzled by that. JUST a touch, tho. This is overall a really deft use of two characters who made themselves highly endearing throughout the inaugural, and a knockout comic altogether.
Your inks and tones are always such a treat and this comic is no exception. You add such interesting texture and detailing to your work- even going so far as to utilize the gutters to enhance the content of your panels. And speaking of panels, your page compositions make for such interesting reads page to page. Your opening page 1 is a great example with the midpoint of the page having such nice chunky paneling that follows the angle of the hapless victim.
It never ceases to amaze me that despite the fact Clyde doesn't have conventional facial features, you still manage to get across a litany of expression. That's no mean feat. considering the real estate you got to work with, but the nuance of nervousness, deadpan and even grimace comes across with surprising clarity.
I think this runs light on the scar, if not takes the definition of the matches parameters rather broadly, but I don't think that dings the measure of the story or its intensity. I really enjoyed stretching out that moment on pg 11 with Clyde's hand sliding off B.K's head.
Skwid, I am so SO happy you chose to upload this comic. It is a phenomenal piece of work. I could just GUSH over your linework! Thin and detailed lines but still so expressive and full of energy. Really great use of blacks to block out volume and forms, You Really know how to use value to your advantage!
your panel layout's a just super great, your action is fluid. The story was funny, clever and a great twist.
Honestly the only Crit I have feels more like personal preference or kinda nit picky? Just perhaps a less dense, smaller tone as sometimes your beautiful line work gets a little lost in some panels.
Again, thank you for uploading this, it was so much fun to read and I really look forward to more of your work! Great job dude.
I am so glad you posted this comic Skwid. Clyde and Bug Killer were like taken out from the same graphic novel/series I could read all day long. It is kind of hard to imagine that they are from two different artists judging by how you depicted their chemistry. Very exciting! The writing is stellar and the art just down right professional. I've been wanting to learn how to use screen tones and this comic gave me some nice inspiration.
I thought we were in for a Clyde and Bug Killer team up and then that twist hit me in the end! Cleverly delivered! The dialogue between these two were very natural as well and they really felt alive as I read the comic. Gosh, I hope you keep doing comics because I really love your work. These days I have been busy with site stuff and prior commitments but I cannot wait to make comics about these wonderful Oculama characters, of course Clyde is included! He's always been one of my favorites!
