HELP Bodo managed to get honey both rounds, what a luck bastard LOL
Can I just say I love the Chicken Ranger so much - page 4 was so fun with the angry chicken and all the snowmen in the back. . . Loved the composition of the pages too, it had so much movement and was really fun reading. Thanks for being a great opponent and please thank Mr. Kid Emperor Beekeeper Jr. for all the honey on my behalf.

Oculama

Another fresh faced person coming out to fight! Best of luck to you both!

Good on you for getting your Redemption in. This was a cute little entry. The story was a little muddled as was some of the art. Not quite sure if the honey at the end pacified the chicken or where that particular situation developed towards, but other than that - it was okay! On the whole, you're one of the few people who have taken advantage of this and I'm glad we were able to do it so it's visible for everyone. This was a nice little comic! Good job!

This was a very cute comic! We love a classic 'food battle'. Your art style has a lot of charm to it and this was a great little comic. Really solid characterization and resolution to the plot. You nailed a lot of this.

I'm not personally a fan of the overly soft shadows and coloring. I wish your greys and blues were darker and had more weight to them. I feel it actually was a lot more substantial on the first page when everything already has a grey on it? Not that you need to make your entire canvas grey, but take that grey for your shadows as well as other color hues.

Other than that, great first showing! So awesome you joined us for this tournament. Bodo's a cute character and I can't wait to see more of them! Good work!

A lighthearted and fun scenario! The light shading works really well with your line weight, and I think the selective color accents were a nice choice. I really like the exaggerated text on page 4, but I like the lettering with the sound effects over all as well! That page's composition is really nice, but I think your composition is quite good throughout, it was never confusing or hard to parse. I wish there was just a little more detail in that page 5 spread, just to make that big scene pop out more. Either way it was a really pleasant read!

Ayyy congratz on getting something in for the redemption. It's not super polished and could use some extra time in the oven but like I really love this. It's got a very nice charm to it, and it is very memorable. the mighty morphin chicken ranger page is hilarious and I love that entire part. I think if you get a bit more time with the script and making everything flow easily into eachother, your writing would become really good. And keep at the art, your comics and art have improved from when I've seen your stuff in the past, really really nice work. Way to finish and submit santana great job!

Snow my goodness this is a really cute comic. You have a big manga style in this which is great and really fits your way of storytelling and characters. Your expressions and the lil bit of value work you did with the grey is very very nice. I think you could have focused a bit more on the honey in page 6 and 7, it looks a bit more like after thought than the rest of the grey you have which throws that off a little bit but that's pretty minor. I am interested in what your comics would look like if you went into screen tones instead of the grey. I think it would mesh very very well with your style (forgive me if you already do this but went for just the grey due to the short deadline lol). I think it would look really dope and would make these comics even better. Very cute story too, really enjoyed it so great job on this entire thing!

I'm glad we got to see something from you, even if it's not a fully fleshed out experience. It's more like fever dream, really, since it's hard for me to fully tell what is going on, but the chicken getting so angry that it turns into a power ranger is very silly. The last page where Bodo passes out from the good honey and Beekeeper Jr tells me to vote feels kind of like a threat, so I am voting out of fear that he may come for me next.

Your art is super cute, but it also feels very dynamic and there's a very fluid sense of movement. The limited use of color for the snow and the honey just adds that little bit of pop that helps with the clarity of what's going on. I like how you did the sound effects and action lines, too. It's a bit hectic, but in a fun way, and the star characters feel very endearing. Good job!

An absolutely charming entry; I enjoyed the storybook elements: both how the action is unconstrained by panel dividers, and the sort of spoken-word poetry of the text. That the story itself is a rather charming one of accidents and misadventure solved through collaboration (and a tasty spoonful of honey~), adds to this storybook charm.

Art-wise, I'm intrigued by the block-color approach over the simple lineart. It works well with the layout of these pages, helping distinguish the characters and smaller visual elements of the comic. It's an approach that I could definitely see evolving into something super-cool with a few iterations.

On a more personal note - excited to see Jr. as a character on Oculama. His dad was a treat, and will be missed, so it's nice to know the next generation is here to stay for a while.

Right off the bat, I'm struck by how many dynamic angles you use throughout your pages, and how much variation thereof you employ to keep every page visually engaging. Your skills with perspective and depth are highly evident! Similarly, you employ a good balance of masked v non-masked illustrations, which also keeps things quite interesting.

I adore how busy and full you've made the school feel. Definitely one of the more alive depictions of the school in the first round, and one that elevates the comedic action of the story. It makes for a great backdrop to the personality development that Bodo and Jr. get. Jr. feels a proper reluctant friend - cool and hostile exterior that melts into a more tsndere type. Bodo's easygoingness shines through too, and serves as the glue that makes their development from misunderstanding enemies to shaved ice friends feel convincing.

Also - love that all the cute sidekick mascots get to mingle for a dessert party at the end!

I am glad to see you still submitted something for a redemption!
It was an interesting approach!
Admittedly, it was a little hard to follow and trying to understand where the chicken element came into play.
The coloring and the font choices where a little bit of an eye strain.
I think a little bit of time to slow down and make things a bit neater, and a bit more clarity would have been nice. Im glad you still submitted something!

InkySlime

Very very cute comic!
I really liked your playful approach to the test and this match up. How you chose to use your bee-keeper opponent was adorable and not what I had anticipated at all! Very good use of the character.
Nice panel layouts and overall very nice pacing.
some small notes, I think with some of the text could have been made bigger/used more contrast to stand out. I missed the "growl" and bee-keeper talisman on first read through, so I missed a bit of that context.
I did like the Orange and Blue hues as contrast to the grey scale of the comic, I think though I would recommend using a slightly darker or more contrasting blue as it was too close in value to the grey and kinda got lost a bit.

but such a cute and fun comic, it was a really enjoyable read. Nicely done!

PyrasTerran

Good on you for redeeming with something to look at. That being said however, I had to double-read to get a real feel for what exactly I WAS looking at! I think I get it now and the concept (At least, I assume they are the concepts of ideas that you had in mind for the original pages had you the time to work them) is definitely funny. I too would collapse from delicious, delicious honey.

PyrasTerran

A terrific round 1 entry! Even without colors or particularly focused shading you nailed so much of this, from the characters to backgrounds and composition, nice sound effects and legible lettering, this has the whole package. I could practically hear the comic, with how vivacious it is. I would have gone for a different font for beekeeper (and I got confused trying to read the other alien-like font in that one panel) but it's not a big deal at all. If this was a comfortable pace for you for a speed battle, I'd be plenty happy seeing more pages at this level.

Piñata

Hooray for redemption!
I can't decide whether you are working with some surreal off the wall experimentation on sequential work, or if we've meandered into the esoteric realm where comic is more of a concept than a story. I don't necessarily think that's wrong, but I can see how it would be arresting for more who frequent the OCT circuit to find themselves presented with something different.
This was definitely more of a show don't tell by way of direction. Your stilted to the point narration almost made this read like the trippiest children's book on sharing honey. XD Which I gotta say is a first I've seen in tournies like these.

Piñata

I cannot tell you how much I smiled poring over these pages. Your comic work and art has such personality and charm that feels like it'd be right at home in my local comic shop. It's day in the school life entries like this that has me inspired to re-watch classic hero animes or cartoons. Your opponent is such a unique off the wall design, but you still managed to customize them to your style so they fit in your universe which is no mean feat. This may just be a difference of aesthetics, but something about the super school format almost begged for some halftone shading as opposed to the soft greys for a bit of contrast. It honestly doesn't affect my votes on what is a really funny comic, but something to think about. You're framing such delicate work with a bold and black panel, I want to ensure the readers focus isn't the frame itself but the content therein.
Bodo as a character is such a goof. I'm looking forward to seeing more of not just your hero in the making but the rich little academy universe you've cooked up. SO GREAT to see these two mucking about in a world and environment that has a part to play.

Please keep doing comics, but because they are such a treat to read ! :D
