Very nice comic here. Very clean and nicely done with getting colours in an a bit of shading. I do believe you can go a little harder on the shading. I would have gone for a darker shade on the wall and especially under the bench. It'll add a little bit extra to your comics and make your art pop a bit more. As is it is a little flat but that's something a few of us myself included have a problem with. You set up a funny lil premise here which is nice. the build up to the explosion is nice, its a good joke. One other small thing you can do in the future is you don't need to have every panel have the same background colour. I understand that it's the colour you have for the background but when it's a smaller panel of just hands or an emotion or something, you could change that colour to something else to fit the mood more, or just to break it up a bit. As it is now it's alot of orange, and breaking that up a bit with a blue or even greys would be nice. Great job though, this is great work for a comic done in a week.
Very nice work here Doe. I noticed you took what I said in the R1 comic and applied it to this one. the smaller screentones does wonders for readability on the smaller panels or those with extra details. so great job on that. I think this is a fantastic comic and I can gush about how good it is but I'm going to nit pick a few things. I do think this is super well done. probably my favourite comic this round (Apart from my own LOL) so don't take this negatively. You gotta watch out for when you draw the smaller charactes that can be found on the bottom of page 1and 2 etc. When they get that small they get pretty blurry and can't fully tell who is who or enjoy the art. It's easier to see when you got the character in colour but when its the same gradient as the background it's pretty hard to see. This one is my own personal taste but I think you can break your panels a bit more. You don't need to and this is very much a me thing but there are a few instances where a little break would make scenes a bit better. You break a fair bit in the latter half which is great, I just really like breaking panels so yeah. But the second last panel on page 1 and the bottom of page 2 with Ramona's ear. It's small things but I think it looks better overall.
The only big issue I see in the comic (everything else is pretty small ngl) Is the bottom of page 2. Your speech bubbles lead the eye to the very bottom panel and it's a little janky to read. You have a lot of text in that left panel, and it messes with the flow of the dialogue and the comic. The panel would need to be changed in order to keep it all together like that, but I would suggest adding some extra panels there to keep it all flowing well. It's a hard set to fix being at the very bottom, but just keep your eyes out for the flow of dialogue, since the full white text bubbles going down right towards the white question marks and further dialogue really compels the eyes to follow that.
All in all this was a great comic though, fantastic work!
Oooh bless, that was such a cute round!
It was a dialogue heavy round, but you still managed to make it fun to read with changing angles, fun character expressions and good writing in general! I also think you did a good job showcasing both characters' abilities, despite it not being a battle round - seeing how abilities affect the story is always fun in these hero comics, and this round served well in that!
I did feel though that the comic might have benefitted from a little experimentation in background colors. As the story takes place in the same place throughout, the background tends to have similar colors, sometimes making it feel visually 'monotone'. Perhaps changing the background color in a few panels to convey tone would have been nice too? (Say, lighter orange to convey 'shiny/new!' for P3/Panel5)
That being said, it was still a very fun round to read with the cute and fun character interactions! Ramona is such a cute character, and I had such a blast reading a comic about her again! (Yes I am stealing puns now)
Does child safety service also cover therapy, since if so I am STILL calling them.
Jokes aside, that was again a very good comic! I always love how your comics guide your eyes smoothly, with the speech bubbles and angles of scenes. The visuals were nice as always - I loved the maze scene panels being hedges themselves! Personally, I thought the story resolution was nice too, with the first scene coming back later.
The only thing I would say is the panel on Page 4 did feel a bit packed. (Like Libby's dialogue in panel 7 overflowing into the panel above makes it feel more cramped than it actually is.) As it is one of the core parts of the story, I think it would have benefitted from having a bit more space? In that sense, I thought the last page was really nice, as it was spacious enough for the reader to feel the emotions of the scene as it unfolded.
However, my comments are again just nitpicks, as it was already a visually and narratively good round! Now back to praying Libby can make many good friends by the end of everything. . .
Always down for a conversational comic! I feel like these two have plenty of parallels to play with and explore, and this comic shows them really well! I think you also did a good job of paneling and adding interesting angles to a conversation that was mostly back and forth. I loved the way you showcased their abilities' passive effects, things that effect their day-to-day, and the little explosion was a really nice touch of humor and a neat way to end a heartfelt comic!
This is an interesting set up for a teamwork-based test, and a nice showcase of both character's personalities! I like the way Ramona's abilities are utilized this round too. The background, tone, and shading work is also really nice this round, I particularly liked the bits of blue and red that peak through in some more emotional panels. There's lots of fun angles taken advantage of with the maze set up too. Nice to see a happy ending as well!
This was a very cute comic. There wasn't any real stakes but it felt like a great first meeting as these two become friends. While your background recycling was effective since the scene didn't change, you probably would have benefited from a little more time spent in detailing them. However, you definitely have shown off Ramona super well. You did a great job with this comic and this character so far. I can't wait to see more of her in the future! Good job!
This comic looks beautiful. You're good in many aspects - but you definitely need to adjust your brevity some. A lot of the dialogue - page two and page four in particular has a lot of dialogue being pumped in. The idea itself for the story was good and Turps is just such a cute character. I really want to fight her down the line and hopefully we have some more of her real soon! Great work!
I thought this was a very unique set up! The oral exam and how both of those characters abilities would have made that kinda test difficult. I thought that was very clever.
It was a nice conversational comic and a nice interaction with the two. The pacing was nice and I liked your panel layouts.
It did take me a second read through to understand the static shock is what actually set off the boom, so I think a little more emphesis on that would have helped clarity.
But overall very cute comic!
I am just always so wildly impressed with what you are able to pull off in such a short amount of time.
This was a really slick comic, I thought your premise was really interesting and i thought it created a really interesting dynamic between the two. They came together as friends so naturally.
It was also a nice to see them also fail but still meet the standards of the test regardless, it also made a good joke.
Well done Doe!
I don't know what I expected for a round dedicated to theory but I am utterly charmed by the little things you focused on for this round. I never thought about monster or beast coded heroes who of course couldn't use tools meant for default human hands. And even then, heroes like Turps who is constantly making a liquid would benefit from an oral exam. The concept of an alternative to this testing is really creative and dovetails perfectly into organically getting these two together. Granted all that happened here was technically fumble of some flashcards, but I found myself really enjoying this pairs exchange and chemistry. I almost half expected a stereotypical meet cute with hands going for the same flashcard XD
TROO FWENSHIP ;3; I love the build up to these two not only getting to know one another, but building trust and sharing their fears. Balancing this with an academy test is spinning alot of plates by way of events in a comic, but I think you manage to hit your story beats in a clear throughline that made for a very fun read. I also love the design of the instructor being the only stark white thing in this wonderfully colored comic. The design of the maze and the choices made by Ramona to join Turps for them to work together culminating in a hug was just saccharine sweet. I also see you eased off the screentones on aspects of your panels you wanted to pull focus on ,which is VERY smart
This is a really nice and cute story! I'm impressed with how you come up with creative ways to pair up these heroes in examinations based off their abilities. That creativity is really one of your bigger strengths as a comicker. I think i recall you mentioning how harder this one was to have to draw a human vs a monster and trust me I feel that, but I think you managed to succeed there for the most part. Keep it up!
Doe Doe Doe you keep impressing me! Solid marks all around with this one, you have a really good handle on drawing Ramona's beastly self, every time she was on panel it felt like you were having a lot of fun with her. And that maze sequence panel one of the best in the tournament! Strong marks, strong marks! Really only thing here that I can still see you can improve more on is the black screen tone elements in some of the background work, but they have been looking better with each submission so I'm confident you'll get it!
ohhh this was ADORKABLE AND I LOVE THEM BOTH lol. good showing and moment from your last comic! I very much enjoyed the calm moment for the two shy gals and both of the being girlfailures is was really enduring and great to see! I dont really have a criticism for anything in this round and Im very much invested in seeing both of you progress and hopefully make even more sweet goofy comics with these characters!
great choice to go with how similiar both libby and Ramona are in terms of being picked on and showing how they both deal with it. Also a great idea for the teamwork excercise! I was not expecting that but the setup gave a great moment for the two with libby freaking out about whether Ramona was yanking her chain and showing how deep her trauma goes into paranoia. Same as fuzzlekins I honestly dont have anything critical to say about this comic entry nice work!
