For each round, each pair of opponents will be given a random scenario their battle plays out in. These scenarios are events and incidents happening around The City during Kudra’s attack. Both artists of the match must then use the scenario in their comic. At the related channel on the Oculama Discord you will see a list of possible scenarios, listed from order of severity and likelihood of appearing between the rounds, with the more severe of scenarios most likely to hit after the first round. You will also see an example of how the tournament could play out, with scenarios allotted in each round.
At the start of each round is when each match will be provided their scenario randomly, so no one knows which scenario they will get until the round starts. The final round will have one extra unique scenario separate from the list, revealed at final round start. Note: if you and your opponent want to trade scenarios with another pair and all parties are in agreement, you can make this trade once for the tournament.
The kaiju Kudra itself is a 65 meter (215 feet) tall monster with the visual aesthetic of rubbery suit-mation designs of Kaiju/tokusatsu film. Kudra is unkillable and unstoppable for all rounds and matches, except the final round. Kudra’s range of abilities are whatever is written in winning comics during any of the rounds. The winning finale comic can see the demise of Kudra; whatever the finalists write, the winner determines the fate of the kaiju and of The City.
Death tournament rounds are to take place in the same preset location, the island metropolis known as The City, in snowy winter time. Kudra will attack from the North by The City's only bridge and move South. Though some structure to the setting of this tournament has been pre-established, contestants are encouraged to build up this sandbox with their own ideas, anything from local fast food, culture, architecture, names of streets and neighborhoods. Contestants are welcome to collaborate with each other on constructing the unified world of The City and borrow each other's ideas to make this location feel lived in and personal to the characters entered, and seem like the same city regardless of whose comic pages are being read.
Reasons for designing this tournament with a pre-established setting as opposed to being fully open-ended will fall into the plans for the rewards, explained further below.
