HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING BOTH CHARACTER SHEETS PRIOR TO THIS AS USUAL; IT MIGHT BE THE LAST TIME YOU OPEN EITHER!
SPOILER FREE SYNPOSIS:
IN THIS GENRE-DEFINYING COMIC, THE MIMIC TAKES THE FORM OF THE VICTIMZER'S LATEST VICTIM: COMMANDER LEYNDELL. NULL ENTERS ITS BIRTHSPACE, THE VOID, IT FINDS DOZENS OF OTHERS SEEMINGLY EXACTLY LIKE IT LINED UP. IT ENTERS THE BACKROOMS, WHERE IT SEES A SINGLE CHEST. IT DESTROYS IT KNOWING DAMN WELL IT IS A MIMIC. HOWEVER, ON ITS WAY OUT OF THE ROOM THE DOOR (AND AFTERWARDS, THE WALLS) TURNS OUT TO BE A MIMIC. IT EASILY OVERPOWERS AND ANNIHILATES THE ENTIRE 50+ TONS OF METAL AND LEAD AND WHATEVER THE DENSEST MATERIAL IS. THE VICTIMZER TAKES SOMETHING UNDEFINED AS A TROPHY. THE PAGE CRUMBLES IN A BALL IN 3D FASHION, AS IT WAS THE MIMIC ACTUALLY. SOMEHOW THE ACTION CONTINUES IN CRUMPLED FORM BECAUSE I DID NOT EXPOSE ALL OF MY IDEAS FOR THIS MATCH UP YET: IT FINDS OUT THE TRUE HIDEOUS FORM OF THE MIMIC'S CONSCIOUSNESS (WHICH I MAY NOT REVEAL YET BECAUSE THAT IS STILL A FUTURE PLOT POINT IF I SURVIVE, BUT IT HAS DO TO WITH THE STARS OBVIOUSLY). DERANGED BY ITS VICTIMS SURVIVAL, THE THING FLIES WITH ITS SHIP TOWARDS A STAR TO FUCK THE MIMIC UP ONCE AND FOR ALL. HOWEVER, IN AN UNFORTUNATE TURN OF EVENTS, THE TROPHY IT TOOK AND FORGOT ABOUT NOW GETS STARLIGHT AGAIN, ALLOWING IT TO SNEAKILY SNEAK OUT OF ITS GLASS AND INTO THE SHIP'S INSANELY COMPLEX AND COMPACT MACHINERY (SO THAT WAY I DO NOT HAVE TO MODEL ACTUAL PARTS), CAUSING IT TO NOSEDIVE INTO A BLACKHOLE. FORTUNATELY OR UNFORTUNATELY DEPENDING ON HOW YOU VIEW IT, NULL'S STOLEN MACHINERY KEEPS HIM ALIVE THROUGHOUT ALL OF THIS, CAUSING IT ETERNAL PAIN AS IT IS IN THE SMALLEST POSSIBLE VOLUME AT THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE DENSITY, EFFECTIVELY CRUSHED TOGETHER INTO A MINUSCULE BALL. OBVIOUSLY THIS PROCESS IS NON-REVERSIBLE WITHOUT KILLING IT, SO IT STILL COUNTS AS A DEATH, BUT THE ACTUAL DEATH HAS HAS YET TO OCCUR, CURRENTLY HE IS FINE AND JUST SUFFERING FOREVER.

MEGA cool comic!

Wait, no, that's not quite right...

...META cool comic!

You've pulled off a stellar class in stakes escalation in this one; even having read all the OCT comics I have, I honestly didn't expect you to take the Mimic's copyliciousness to quite that level. Really the only complaint I can level at the story flow is that the Null Haunt's ability to overcome the mimic getting it's jaws around the narrative is that it felt a touch on the straightforward side compared to the build-up preceding it. Or maybe's that's commentary on the ultimately arbitrary limits of power levels in fiction. Either way, your art makes it a strong finish, going just a dollop psychedelic where called for, and cleanly straightforward where appropriate~

Wolkemesser

Very daring approach to the storytelling here - almost more storybook than comic, but the end result is very impressive; I feel the alien eeriness of both characters strongly, and the environment you place them in is so unsettlingly hostile in its emptiness. A very effective choice for the nature of the actual "fight" that takes place. I'm reminded, aesthetically, of the Philip Hunt animation for "ah pook! is here." For areas of improvement, I would recommend streamlining the actual narration; there were stretches (the bit about the ring, most notably) that I have a bit of trouble determining the purpose of. Maybe also run future scripts through an extra set of eyes for clarity; while the overall flow of the encounter is clear, there's a lot of extra verbiage here that distracts from the strongest elements of the comic. Overall, wonderful mood establishment, TREMENDOUS work on the modeling and lighting throughout, and a spooky alien spectacular all around. I'd hate to get caught in the Mimic's snare, but I'm having an absolute BLAST reading through it~~~ :)

InkySlime

Right off the bat, you do such an excellent job with the eerie and suspenseful atmosphere. I feel unease reading this comic, (In a good way! You hit the mark). Just the looming uncertainty of dealing with a mimic. You're 3d models are also very cool, the care and thought you take to render your opponents character is phenomenal.
The only critiques I can really come up with in this case is I think some of the layouts could use a little work, to help with clarity, as example I didn't register that last panel on Pg 2 right away that it was a separate shot at first.
And this could be personal preference, but I think selecting a different font and some more careful placing of the text would be beneficial to your work. Sometimes it over shadows your gorgeous 3d renderings, or looks really out of place with the rest of the piece.
I enjoyed this quiet a bit, and I look forward to seeing more of your comics!!

InkySlime

Molo this was an absolute treat from start to finish. The playfulness you had with the panel layouts where so incredibly clever, the whole comic was! such an excellent flow as well, your pacing was really on beat and just read so smoothly. I was delightfully surprised with the direction you went with this one. If Im being completely honest, Any critique id have at this point would really just be nitpicky, and I don't think that would be helpful.
Overall, really fantastic work dude, this was an absolute blast and I am looking forward to more of your comics!!

OH wow, This is some real great improvement from your past 2 comics, adding more to the background and more lighting to show off the characters did such a wonderful job at showing off the 3d rendering you do. Which is absolutely wonderful. The Mimic is absolutely revolting in the best way possible, its so slimey and gross and I hate it so much but like in the best way possible. This comic had such a nice spot for me, the mix of the almost claymation looking rendering that you were working with and the storybook type of storytelling really put it in such a fun little spot for me. It was like a childrens book decided to take a horror vibe. Super fun stuff, Really want to see you tackle more comics like this in the future cause they are so fun. Amazing job

Also kudos for like breaking the site with all that text in the description hahahahaha, amazing

Ninja

Sheeeesh, you were not holding back with this comic at all. Such a fun weird story with characters you wouldn't fully expect it from but oh boy does it work so incredibly well. Some really great writing here, being able to pull off such a story and coming up with the idea with characters that would never scream this sort of meta comic at me personally. But you showed off their potential and the reason this story had to go the way it did because you made it so perfectly. Your art is fucking stellar in this, the colours and everything just pop in the best way and hiding all the mimics text in the background is phenomenal. You really outdid yourself here Molo, I have soooo many brain worms about a fight against The Null Haunt. Amazing job

Sparkle Magic Didi™

I genuinely didn't know where to expect the Mimic's story to go next, but this is so rad! Your comic is terrifying in a claymation "we made this for children in the 80s and now they have nightmares at 40 about it" sort of way, which is to say, I love it. Still so impressed you're doing 3D models for every character and prop, that must be an obscene amount of work to do in a week! I love the panels of the traveler interspersed with the words giant and scary behind him, it's a very cool effect. And the clues and reveal it was all a hallucination were well done! I think one thing I could nitpick is maybe the layout of your words could be different? It works in some panels, but there are some spots I think a word bubble could help give it a little something. Great job though! The mimic is a wild ride every fight!

Sparkle Magic Didi™

FRICK dude that was so good. I would never in a million years have thought to use the Mimic like that, it was such a cool idea. The Mimic being the literal comic page we're reading and trying to crush Null Haunt with a *panel*, bitch? Iconic. The way the Mimic tried to trap Null Haunt in with an actual visual reference of the Black Diamond was v cute. The visuals are cool and trippy, every time you drew the Mimic it was scary and rad. And that kill page? BABY, that's how you kill an opponent! I don't have enough good things to say about your comics, this was just a very cool experience, thank you!!

CornOfTheBreads

I thought this had some very clever aspects to it but there is a part of me that fears that perhaps that the mimic is too broad of a concept and allows for practically anything to happen and leaves the comic a bit too open to just what ever happening in the spur of the moment since it can be anyone or anything and even now just affect peoples perception it feels a little too unlimited and Im not sure I can see a fun weakness in this character and at times doesnt really feel like a character because they are so broad in terms of being defined. I do enjoy the 3D art in a lot of spots over all it was very solid.

CornOfTheBreads

I felt this comic had some amazing art and I really loved the colors. I think my favorite part was the fact that you took this idea of almost a reality mimic and made it feel tangible and something your character overcame. I also must say I am a sucker for playing in the margins of a comic. if I could have a complaint it would be that Null Hunt does feel a bit on the side of having no tangible weakness now that he has cut himself out of reality itself Im sure he can be hurt since he is missing a piece of his tail and that wasnt your intent to make him feel so powerful but it is hard to imagine him not being nigh untouchable now but maybe thats just from my background of reading way too many super hero comics, over all I really loved this comic!

Lucky Nothin

Simple and to the point. A usual sort of mimic story with a usual sort of otherworldly creature conclusion, which still manages to wrap up in a fun way. Having Starspawned Mimic speak in the actual background was a clever choice, though it did require a few double takes to see all the words in some panels. I feel like a few panels could do with just a touch more visual clarity, such as when Null Haunt jumped towards the door. Maybe a slightly thicker or different colored outline, there's a few different options. Null's details get a little muddled on itself as well when it's getting crushed. The effects on the gutter pages are very fun.

Lucky Nothin

It's interesting to a see a comic done in 3D despite it not being the common pick. I believe you could benefit from adding or changing a few different things here. I can at least understand the difference between what's being spoken and what is narration, but it might flow a little smoother with at least speech bubbles for when characters speak. There were a few instances where I had to reread for the appropriate delivery with some sentences, maybe a bit of time spent on the actual spacing on the page or line cuts could help that. There were also times where the text color choice unfortunately made it difficult to see, and the choice of lighting in some spots also made things a little rough. You have good dramatic lighting, but it doesn't always need to be dark. The starry page transition was a little rough, either using panel cuts or an overall fade from top to bottom could help next time. Story wise, the words chosen were nice yet I feel like it could have more emphasis or oomph on certain scenes.

Rivana

Mihnea - I still can't wrap my head around your ability to make a comic with 3D modeling in one week. The texture of the mimic's tentacle was so realistic on page 2! I think a point of improvement is also picking some nice boombastic Sound Effect fonts (or use your handwriting but make them thicker and more impactful) if you can manage the time. Your writing is exquisite. Riveting and ominous. I felt the dread in every panel and the dark environment really added to it. Choosing a bright gray/white color scheme on the first two panels in page 6 was a clever idea to make that scene pop! Another job well done!

Rivana

Molo - Oooh so nice to see a colored comic from you! There is roughness in your inks that give your art a very organic feel which I love. Breaking the 4th wall for a character like Null was so unexpected and you made it work so well and so cleverly done. I was very pleasantly surprised by the approach you took in this battle. The colors splashing off the screen/page was so cool in page 9. And Null Haunt being squeezed by Mimic through panels and then breaking out of it in the next scene was such a creative way to depict the fight scene! Bravo!

desdemonical

Mihnea, your comic had a really interesting plot. I liked the twist about what the mimic was going for and it infecting the null haunt's body. I liked that it was focused on a single meeting and the mimic figuring out what its opponent wanted and how to manipulate/control it. I did find some of the action a little hard to follow at times, and I feel having more lighting in your comics would make them easier to read. I was a bit confused by the hooded figure aspect, and I'm not sure I completely understood it. I did enjoy reading it a lot however, and I liked the mimic's appearance in this.

desdemonical

Molo this blew me out of the WATER
what a creative idea! I loved the concept of the mimic becoming the comic itself, and then the null haunt breaking out. I really loved the narrative twist of null being able to live in the gutters, the empty spaces. I think my only complaint is that the opening look at the mimic felt a bit lackluster, and I'm not sure why...I felt it looked more and more interesting as the comic continued and it opened up/ shifted/split apart. I overwhelming loved the style and paneling and compositional tricks in this comic, and it makes me really excited to read more.

fishstick

As always, the mere conceit of a CG comic is impressive, but you've outdone yourself here. The Null Haunt model is excellent and I love the absolute fleshiness of the mimic. I also think you've sort of nailed a sweet spot in terms of lighting, it's still dramatic and moody but without sacrificing visual clarity, plus the two location changes having different lighting setups is very effective.
The story of the comic is also really cool. I think it might be a tiny bit convoluted but it works with the narration style and the twists and turns are fun to follow. Once again you've made a super creative comic full of interesting ideas, I can't wait to see what crazy stuff you pull out in the future.

fishstick

Absolutely brilliant execution of a concise and beautiful premise. I love how you use your relatively straightforward character concept to delve into absolutely unstraightforward comics techniques, it feels like both of your rounds really explored the high-concept nature of the mimic.
Needless to say the art is incredible, these colors just jump right off the page and the fourth wall breaks are seamless; it's remarkable how you can make an off-the-wall concept so easily understandable with just visuals.
Anyway not a review thought but I've actually just been re-reading Understanding Comics and am currently on the "blood in the gutter" chapter haha so this comic made me go "ooo"

Piñata

This type of modeling and look lends itself to almost tricking the eye and looking like claymation, which is very neat. I don't know if you're using Z-Brush or something, but the 'imperfect' dimpling on the figures almost feels like clay to me! I think if I had a note, it'd be to check out some resources and even your fellow Oculytes on utilizing comic word bubbles and font. I think it'd really enhance your pages and even manage methods for your font and lettering to match the style and theme of your 3D work. This is definitely evident in your sound effects. Don't get me wrong I love that you've included them, but they seem to simply be scrawled on which I think takes away from the quality of your work. Still all in all great effort. I think you have something with this fairytale type of storytelling

Piñata

GOD. The way you have leapt off the page on your opponents concept is so inspired. Turning into a comic book page?? COME ON.
Another great note I noticed is that the dialogue that's given isn't superfluous but helps give context to the narrative when needed. Like if some lookie loo rolled onto Oculama and came across this comic, they wouldn't need to do anything but read this to know who and what these characters are. They'd know this is a mimic, they'd now this alien exists in null space. It's just enough to get the point across without being too ham fisted. I love seeing comics showing me something new with the format I've never seen before and you delivered in spades. Beautiful, beautiful work. I really hope the community gives this a read and gets just as inspired!

Wiz

You have a very intresting character concept with your mimic. I also enjoyed your complex narrtive you where going for.

UnfortunatelyI do feel that it was brought down with the lack of speech bubbles. It made it harder to read at times, and broke up the flow a bit. I also feel that character's poses and expressions where stiff.

Regardless it's still very impressive that you managed to make 3D models in such a short amount of time. I think that if you had more time you could make something really intresting! Keep working with 3D man. Lastly you are a really creative guy and I can't wait to see what other characters you bring to the table.

Wiz

I have no words for this one. You really did a great job with this one. I love it when comics play with the fact their comics and you really went wild with this one. I was really brought in by the mind bending panels you showed here. You really knocked it out of the back. The art is nice, the writing is smart, the narrative between both characters was fansastic.

It was intresting to see how Null deals with being in a situation where he's not dangerous creature in the room. And I really loved how you protrayeed Starspawned mimic. Just an overall great round. Can't wait to see more from you!
