Very impressed with the designs in this one, between the artwork, the transformations, and the magically-conjured beasties, this one's a feast for the eyes. The little details like how you've depicted Montaigne's hands are equally delightful, and your lighting remains incredibly strong. re: dialogue I felt Monty's verbosity tended toward putting itself a bit between the reader and a truly smooth reading experience; I found myself distracted by a lot of the wordier word bubbles and some of the other dialogue choices that didn't do full justice to the visual skill on display here. A clean looking piece overall, and some nicely wry gags sprinkled here and there that really spice up the overall comic.
Very nice balance here giving us both OCs a chance to say their piece throughout, and get a few jabs, both magical, and verbal, in with one another. I come away from this comic with a great sense of both characters, doled out very organically.
Art-wise, maybe experiment with the establishing shots on future pieces; while it never becomes an issue that slows down the flow of action, I feel I never get a great sense of the layout of the warehouse (beyond the stage) and it took me a few pages to get a full picture of what your portrayal of Monty looks like. That said, your art of the moon scenes is tremendous, and served the story well as a location - a little lovely, a little thought-provoking, and a little funny towards the end.
Great comic, and thank you for sharing :)
First of all, omg- All the GIF and aesthetic art?! Gotta hand it to you for being the first(?) to bring it on the table! Hope you inspire someone to do it ASAP first because you sure inspired me to do it sometime soon! I really love how you gave your character decent glow because it really looks like they’re glowing!
I wanna also add that I really appreciate the little plot twist towards the end as well! Really genuine and nothing too out of tune or anything. It was still unexpected and well-done, as well! I want you to keep writing stuff this kind of fun, Cro-Iba. It’s really fun reading from you.
The ending was pretty hilarious, I’ll say! An amazing plot twist as well. I’d kind of prefer if you try to draw with a little less shaky look, the stabilizer tool can certainly help with that. Sorry if that’s not a good advice, it’s just a bit hard to read body language and characters and other important details sometimes when the lineart is almost always so shaky. But other than that, I really loved how you interpreted the other character as very dramatic and dreamy, it’s pretty entertaining and honestly one of my favorite tropes. Keep writing and having fun! You did amazing.
You never fail to treat us with some great angles and interesting paneling, and your page 1 is no exception with Montaigne looming over a poor sap from that worms eye view. I enjoy the utter wordishness of this new character from you. Really hams up the theatrics and is not one for a succinct word with ne'er do wells By way of these two going toe to toe, I found myself a little disappointed to see Montaigne dressed down so easily- at least initially. These two characters by profile alone seem evenly matched and more than formidable, but the fighting was left to minions or our hapless shopkeeper. It takes a bit to ingratiate and introduce us to protagonists in order to root for them, and you had more than one here. It left your own character a bit sidelined.
Really enjoyed the personalization you put on Monty's word bubbles. They look as ostentatious as the character! Not to mention the visual interpretation of their powers . I especially liked the handprint NO upon closing Montaigne's handy portals. The battle that ensued was visually interesting! It was neat to see the color theming and ideas you were able to bring to the table on how these characters respective powers manifest. Magic aside, its interesting to see a thought provoking conversation happening between blows. Despite either side not budging, it was good to see their stances mutually questioned. The chekov's gun of bringing back the moon as the way to tie this story into a neat little bow was very clever. Way to show us that end in the beginning.
All in all great first showing. I definitely look forward to reading more from you.
What an elegant comic! I've been reading this comic for more than 5 times now. First, this comic has a solid plot structure, from the hook into the payoff. The Artwork is looking clean and did both characters design justice (Especially Montaigne's 'Moon Beast' form). On the other hand, as eccentric as Montalban trait goes, you still did him justice by making him stand up to his assistant, and him animating that octopus monster, MAN THAT WAS GOOD. As a point of improvement, I may suggest, you put more action and have worked more on your ending. Also try to work on the payoff of the ending to make it more gratifying.
I like the way you introduce Montaigne in a way a mob boss doing her job. The way you set up the scene for Montaigne's missions and how Montalban set up the stage for his performance makes sense. Additionally, you did represent both OC's character traits, rightfully. about how both of them debate the warehouse. The plot is pretty standard on how you decided to match them, and while you're still doing good on portraying both character's magical prowess, sadly it goes without clear direction on what's the story's entirely about. The Artwork on the other hand is good, but some details could be emphasized. Overall it's a pretty entertaining entry from you Furlitz!
Gorgeous art! A variety of interesting, detailed environments! The fight scenes look good and read clearly. Really nice coloring and rendering. I like how you did the transformation scenes.
I felt like maybe I was missing some lore? The sculptor felt like they got a lot of focus for a side character which made me wonder if I missed an earlier comic with him or something. None of the dialogue was bad, but there were a few bits that could have been smoother with some editing. It's really hard to strike a balance between this kind of verbose character and snappy dialogue, though!
I really like the last two panels on page four. Really good job with letting every character get a cool moment in, and a nice satisfying ending. I like the title of the comic.
Beautiful art. I really like the contrast between the cool night colors and the hot pinks and purples. The chunky textures look really cool and add a gritty feel to the comic. The action was clear and there were a lot of good expressions.
Montaigne never really feels like they're in danger imo- A good way to add more drama and excitement is to raise the stakes of the fight. If she's not fighting for her own life, maybe she needs to keep a mooks alive or protect some bit of merchandise? Give the audience something to get invested in.
Good foreshadowing of the ending with the start of the comic. The ending itself is a creative way to get rid of an enemy! I like the flair and philosophy you give Montalban.
Cro - What a fun comic this was and completely fully colored and rendered! Montaigne and Montalban are both very interesting characters and their dialogue was very entertaining and full of personality. I was gonna add a note at first that some dialogue felt a bit too wordy but then I realized that's just part of Montalban's character and charm. You let your opponent's character shine in this and I think that's very commendable. Lots of great panels here but my favorite has gotta be page 8. I love how you gave us that wide-shot view of the fight to get a better idea of the scale between the Octopus and Montaigne. I really got a laugh at that "Octopus covered with knives" joke. Speaking of jokes, I love the resolution at the end and that winking moon like it's part of the whole thing. Well done overall!
Furlitz - I am so thrilled to see you jump into the battle with Monty and it does not disappoint. Like your opponent, you also went ham on the full-colored comic. This one is a more lowkey interaction compared to Cro's but it's no less entertaining mind you. Also, that animated banner was amazing and so well done. I think you should know that lol. I am guessing it was inspired by that one Iron Giant meme. I love the painting style that you used for this comic. It's not super rendered and the 'roughness' really added more to the atmosphere of your story. I also got a laugh at your ending. I thought you were going to end it on a serious note with that profound and thought-provoking dialogue between the two. I hope to see more of Montaigne for sure!

These both were such excellent comics, absolutely a treat to read on both parts.
Cro-Iba: Your rendering is lovely as always! Wonderful gags and your story pacing was spot on in this one. I really had a great time reading it and Montalban is just so much fun, and that ending was just great, had a good laugh. Great Work dude as always, and congrats on the win and I cant wait for more!
Furlitz: This was so much fun! I love your rending style as well. Story was great and I really enjoyed your paneling. Reading flowed real easily. The way you Tied in the first and last comics gave me a real good laugh. Montaigne is such a cool character and im looking forward to what you do with them.
Thank you both again for such lovely comics, I had a great time!
