Ok, elephant in the room, is Rod too good for your cast of characters? Joking aside... A pretty fun comic! The greyscale feels nice for a kind of prelude, almost like a flashback. And even if SOMEONE might have been forgotten I do think it's super cool that you've included a lot of the contestants!
I do feel like things get a bit muddled with the big impact scene of the comic, maybe it's just a lack of color but unfortunately I struggle with understanding exactly what happens but I get the general idea.
I really love your artwork here, all the characters are drawn perfectly and the scenes complement them naturally. I think the story is also very compelling and a fun twist on the entire idea of chasing Jericho at all. I also like the individual characters expressing their personalities and how those mesh with each other.
I will say I'm not sure what happens if you guys progress to the next round, you've really become entangled with the other team! I guess another critique would be that with regards to narrative there is a lot of explaining of the circumstances without much story momentum, but hey there's a potential for two more rounds so that might just be a "now" problem.
I expect a silly little time with Temptation on board and I got that, good effort y'all! And nice to see you take the time to draw many more of the contestants as well to help fill up the world of this tournament. It felt a little like, by the end, some steam was being lost, which is understandable. I would love to see you practice hand-drawing your sound effects, or at least use different fonts from the lettering. With practice it won't take much longer and you get a lot of value with the overall page from it, especially if you start to consider it as part of the art, part of the composition
Keep it up y'all!
What a beautifully polished piece, I'm floored by how pro everything looks~ It's cool to see pairs in this tournament that are venturing into space *not* for getting a wish themselves but rather for different intentions. It's also inspired the ways you were able to fit your opponents' characters seamlessly into the mission parameters, great creative flexing of working with your opponents' characters' strengths. If y'all make it to the next round I'm quite invested in whatever twists and turns this journey takes Val and Fab going forward
This was a fun comic you guys! I appreciate how playful it was and there was some good action in there!
I think you guys had some good layouts in there, and the pacing of the story was very balanced.
One thing I noticed that would be good to keep in mind is bubble placement, especially in how it relates to the layout and key visuals.
page 1 for example, with all the character head shots towards the bottom of the page, I think moving up the text bubble starting with "wishes" could have been scooched up a bit higher like right above temptation, and the text bubble starting with "for even the sacred cycle" could have been placed where big wizards smoke is with that negative space.
Moving those bubbles would have still kept reading order but balances out the page visually a bit more and doesn't block part of a characters face.
nice work you guys! Thank you for sharing your comic with us!
This was such a delight, I was absolutely charmed, both by art and story. You guys make an excellent pair.
I thought it was a really good set up and excellent use of everyone characters, and it's got me wanting to know what happens next.
to be honest, I'm having a hard time finding anything to critique on, it's just a really strong comic overall!
Awesome job you guys, thank you so much for sharing the comic with us!
I like the humorous take you did for this entry! One thing though is that speech bubble reading order confused me sometimes (e.g. I couldn't tell if I was supposed to read the speech bubble next to each other or start at the top of the panel in certain parts). The art could be more polished but I still find it very pleasing to look at. The conclusion/ending has to be my favorite part. I think it's perfect that Temptation got mistaken for Jericho, esp knowing what Temptation can actually do.
This harkens me back to the movie Armageddon (but better) and I loved every bit of it! The beginning had a lot of exposition but it did not bore me one bit. You kept the narration and the visuals (esp the panel angles) interesting as well. You did an amazing job putting each character in their roles. They are all from different backgrounds and personalities but you all managed to put them in a very cohesive and engaging story where each one contributes to the plot in their own unique way. Art is top-notch! I can't wait to see what happens next!!
The action panels in pages 5 and 6 were absolutely the highlight. The shonen-manga fan in me loved those big beams and impact explosions. I also really loved the visual of Temptation rocketing into space as the "comet." I thought the cameos of the other participants was a cute way to incorporate everyone into the story. (Though my husband might grumble about Galaxy Rod not showing up lol) The bickering back and forth between Rana and Morty was fun, too. The lines were a little bit messy in places, so it would have been nice to see a little bit more polish there, but overall I liked the comic.
Really stunning visuals here. The lighting is very striking and the lines are super clean. Great use of color for dramatic effect. Great looking spaceships and backgrounds. I like that the stakes of the comic are much grander than just chasing it for selfish means, though we do still get to have a little bit of that with Dr. Fabulous having his own ulterior motives for helping. It's funny that Valaric doesn't wear a space suit (you couldn't possibly hide those abs), but they still made an egg shaped suit for Temptation. It was a lot of exposition with not as much action, so I do leave the comic feeling hungry for more, but that also means I'm invested in seeing where it goes next. Considering the way you've woven your competitors into the narrative, it also means they would still be showing up in any subsequent comics, so I'm interested to see how you balance the growing cast. Really solid comic!
Well now you've gone and done it. Two comics that deal with the same themes of pre planning for the chase to Jericho and I dig them both for different reasons XD This was a surprisingly fun little vignette while bigger events proceed around this donut kerfuffle. It's definitely an angle I didn't expect, but feels wholly in line with a character like Rana. Temptation, per usual lends themselves to being the butt of the joke becoming the misidentified comet itself, which I thought was a pretty funny if not hilarious bit of wild goose chasing. I think your story is solid, but I think your inks stood on a bit of shaky ground. Your exaggerated expressions and moments for slapstick I think were really good, but I noted those moments where you played it straight and had to draw things practically were tough- namely your opponent Valaric's chiseled physique. Super muscled figures aren't easy, much less posing them to fit in a scene, so I do commend you on taking the challenge and tourney head on- you just never know who you'll be matched up with.
I'm also a fan of grayscale, but I have to admit your lack of contract left this looking a bit muddled/samesy. Don't be afraid of the color black. Affording those moments of fill blacks and white whites I think would help your elements pop more.
This feels like a nice bit of serendipity that both of you tackled the concept of what people are doing before the big take off. Great to see Dr. Fabulous in his usual form trying to spit game at the finest man in the room XD I can tell who's writing this as your story is keeping the bigger picture of this tournament in mind and I can tell whose coloring with his effortless you're able to elicit mood and atmosphere with the way scenes are shaded. I think this is another case of new a dream team duo I hadn't expected to see. I especially enjoyed how Temptation was utilized in conjunction with Valaric. He's a wizard- of COURSE he'd have the acquaintance and resources to pull out a creepy little fate egg like this little guy. This is also one of the rare round 1 entries where your opponents werent embittered enemies or direct opponents, but part of your story and unified on the goal. I'm curious to see how this is gonna go! :D
Solid comic you both got here! The sorry was short and sweet and got a giggle out of me. However I would say to keep line weight in mind when putting things in the foreground and background— some of the lines were thicker when I think they would have looked more proper thinner and vice versa. And while it doesn’t necessarily need it, I would have enjoyed if there was a bit of color added in, but otherwise good job.
You both blew this out of the park! The exposition really set the tone for the rest of the comic and I’m super impressed. I love the linework, the rendering, and background work so much, I can’t help but gush. Fantastic use of every character, they’ve all got a part to play that makes it hard to replace them, which is what you want in a comic like this. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

@Eric & Arkeis - You two absolutely killed it with this comic; probably my favorite of the entire first round.
You've done the most thorough job making the Jericho feel not just like an opportunity, but a genuine and potent threat to the Junction beyond the scope of this tournament. The mission for Valaric and Rana to get to the comet feels not just exciting, but genuinely consequential. There's a heaviness to the mission that the lighter-hearted moments serve as a pleasant counterbalance to, rather than undercutting.
There's some very funny moments in this comic, all of which feel especially well woven into the storytelling, such that they don't feel like the writer trying to tell a joke but events happening naturally that are simply very funny, like Morty's double-ask and Dr. Fab getting pulled onto the spaceship via Temptation. It's an almost effortless inclusion of humorous elements that make it feel like the story couldn't and shouldn't have been told any other way.
Had a blast writing with y'all's guys, and absolutely adored what you put together. Hope the voting week is restful for you both!!!
