A compilation of my comics for the Big Prism oc tournament :)
Extra credit to brandenfascher for helping me write The Canary Prince and Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust!

S'very good comic here Doe. It's all very in line with the oct so I cant really be like you should use more colours and all that. I think you got handed some rough colours to work with but you did very very well with what you were you given. Writing wise this is a big shining star, a really good run, which got fucking GOT thanks to one of the worst decisions of all time LOL. Great job Doe! You should have won!
An amazing showcase of a wide range of styles- the color work is super strong throughout and there's very imaginative paneling, all flowing really well, the framing done in Canary Prince is wonderful. I love the heavy black shadows in Empty Nest and the mosaic style in Ashes to Ashes and Dust to Dust. Everything is very textured throughout, and I love how the speech bubbles are stylized for Death in Empty Nest. There's a clear throughline for the Blue Prince, the other characters fit into the Prince's story nicely and are not confusing to the setting, making it easy to read for a new reader.
I think the only real note I have is the text and speech bubbles since the text gets a bit small in Empty Nest, it makes it a little harder to reader at times. For the majority of the comics, the text and bubbles are stylized and textured slightly to be clear but also fit into the art, but In Ashes to Ashes I think the bubbles or outlines could've been pushed just a bit further to mesh with the style overall, since I think you do a great job of it in The Canary Prince, which has really textured art.
What an incredible comic, and a run of tournament entries that come together as a whole better than most I’ve ever seen in the OCT landscape.
Your illustrative prowess really shines chapter to chapter - there’s variation in the approaches, but the overall look has a very storybook feel that you tailor immaculately to the shifting mood of the larger tale - whimsical to cathartic to hopeful to grim to unnerving to grim and joyful again.
Most importantly, the prince moves through these styles and moods without hiccup.
The supporting characters throughout the chapters enter the story very organically, and for the most part feel like characters who have been waiting in the wings with doylist intent from the very start of the comic. Most of them not only add to the larger story, but feel like they themselves have received something from the prince and the larger narrative, a very rewarding but of storytelling that shows your adeptness in this medium.
Ultimately, I think the greatest proof of this comic’s great construction is that I found myself absolutely gripped through all three read-throughs thereof. The chapters lead into one another smoothly, and the Prince’s arc becomes engrossing from the first one.
Once again, absolutely terrific comic, and some of the best anthology storytelling I’ve had the pleasure of reading in a long time.
Filije is such a loveable jovial mute character which makes the horrors of the big prism stacking up and changing him all the more worse! Delicious.
I find the overall story fairly straightforward but still effective. The relative simplicity across almost 50 pages here is probably in your favor considering how varied an OCT roster can get. I love the themes of freedom, burden, awareness of the environment(or grip on reality in general with chapter 4), and the recognition of others.
I do find the font choice in the 1st chapter a little rushed in an amusing way. Like picking a mildly retrofuturistic font for the robot character's voice and then applying that back to the intro in page 2 since you were already using that for all the other dialogue that chapter.
Now what was a bit of a headscratcher for me is the relationship between the mountain man representing death and the mafia dragon devil in chapter 3. There's more going on than them just knowing each other given the whole blue heart+lung manifestation on page 24. Later chapters do imply Filije did have some kind of correspondence with said mafia boss.
The combined evolution or experimentation of the artstyle between chapters does make each chapter distinct from one another. Leveraging the cost-effective color coding to suit the characters is pretty good all around as well. Even in the first chapter that feels like it's still being in the process of finding its feet. The 2nd chapter lacks this color coding but the compositions are still pleasant(especially the dancing).
Based on what little i know about the characters i find this series starts getting even more out of the color coding by chapter 3 with the spot blacks pairing well with death and backroom deals, the gradual then abrupt transformative processes of the characters and environment in chapter 4, and in the final chapter's resolution our main character Filije is eventually neither a blue prince or a golden prince.
Filije's sword consistently being grey for ease of recognition across the final 2 chapters is a neat touch too as if it's out of character for him to be wielding it or not part of his usual or new abilities.
The mosaic style in the final chapter also goes hard.
Really creative run here. You always have an excellent taste in your layouts and paneling. While there's far too much to go over here in a timely manner, I think the main thing that captured me is how nicely your colors and lineart-rendering quality looks. It's very fortunate you're able to share these comics as well since they add a nice marker to show your growth even from the time these comics were released (2025) to now. Great comics!
I really enjoyed this collection of comics! I know this was for an OCT but it felt a lot more like its own comic which a lot of OCT enthusiasts have a hard time doing. You have a great grasp of panel structure and creating varying angles for them. It's cool to see that you pushed yourself to improve the quality each round I especially like the final chapter's style though I think my favorite was the fourth one. My one crit is that the final opponent kind of just appears out of nowhere more so than the other rounds. The linework is amazing especially in the last chapter. You used each character well and your writing integrated them into the comic's world nicely. Great stuff!
