I'm actually surprised by how readable Clyde's face is and how easy what it is that he's expressing. Well, relatively, for a bug dude I mean...

PaperSalesman

A new favorite character on the site. I look forward to calling on Clyde's services very soon.

xeno112

yooo this is sooo good! Such a morbidly humorous character intro in just 2 pages you explained a lot about him and I cant wait to see more of Clyde in the future. I love that He is an unreadable monster in the face but gives off such a comical straight man/joe everyman(hitman) vibe just from his actions and mannerisms.

Wolkemesser

This is a nicely illustrative intro; conveys a tidy glimpse into Clyde's work ethos and temperament, as well as the what both make him capable of. That his face is relatively unreadable makes for a really cool contrast to your expressive facework with other characters, and gives the betrayals of emotion in his dialogue a nice bit of extra flavor. My only comment would be that it might have been interesting to see a bit more life from the fella in the bag as he's getting dragged away, since it seems like he gets stuffed in while still conscious, but that is a largely subjective take from me, so grain of salt.

Great work! Love this comic, for sure. Very good composition and variety of shots. I enjoy the grey tones you got going on. The water on page two I personally feel is a little too high in contrast (besides the one panel in the bottom left, which I think finds a good spot.)

I love 'imperfect' lineart, and most of this is *chef's kiss*. However, there are a couple spots where it feels rushed and unintentional, such as the water, again. The lines on characters and backgrounds are nice, and readable, but with the heavy blacks, sometimes details and readability gets a little harder.

Overall I have to say this is a great introduction and definitely makes me want to read more. Very excited to see where this goes!

CornOfTheBreads

This is such a great comic and Clyde has to be one of my favorite characters so far on the site but that may be my buggy bias poking through. I just really love how this character plays with the premise of the site given to everyone. I like that he is a weird grubman and its never questions because his world was absorbed and it feels natural. I think the only thing that made this comic down a tic for me was that if felt a little crowded but it was over all so concise and knew what it wanted to be I cant say much, it truly is an inspiration for me to want to make comic here in the future.

Hell Yeah! Excellent work. I really enjoyed the page composition, especially on that stellar first page. Readability excellent, and the rhythm of the camera work there really works. Touches like that city-scape inset really make it feel extra luxe. I also think your linework is getting pretty nice!! More assured. The "ddraggg" sfx is good too. The second page is less convincing art-wise- but mainly due to the kind of aesthetic shift, I think? It's much more flattened and "cartoony", as it were, and so it's kind of jarring. The first page felt very grounded, so I think it makes some of the shortcuts taken in the second page more visible than they would've otherwise been. The dialogue, as always, feels great! Good work. I'd 100% read more, haha.

InkySlime

I absolutely adored this introduction comic. I think you did a fantastic job of really setting up who Clyde is as a character. Your pacing was top notch so the whole story fitting in two pages turned out very satisfying. well done! My only comment is more of a nit pick? maybe some panel adjustment with the two in the middle on the right hand side kind protrudes into the first panel. But that's a super minor detail . You're linework and how you use tones were delicious. I'm very excited to read more comics from you and about Clyde.

Rivana

Absolutely enjoyed this comic! With only two pages it already packs a lot of punch. And the three-value grayscale you used is so beautifully done that I am actually planning to try that in my next comic. The writing is excellent too and flows naturally. Clyde looks like a teddy bear you'd like to hug but is also terrifying. He's a Hitman, I can tell that much just from reading the comic but I am curious to see where he stands in his own personal principles one day (if he has any!). The mention of the totem by the man early in the comic was also such a nice and exciting touch to tie the comic with the Oculama lore.

Everything is fantastic. I can't wait to see more.

Cro-Iba

this is a super fun introduction that really lays out the tone for clyde, while also giving us a hook into his story! wonderful dialogue, wonderful linework, fun composition, just about everything is good. the zoom out at the start from the hole in the wall to the wide shot is great, as well as the panels on page 1 being so claustrophobic to make the reader really feel like clyde's trapped them, followed up by the nice establishing shot of the city as a contrast—and i gotta appreciate a detailed, free-hand drawing of a bustling city! can't get enough of those little windows. of course the phone gag is good, i don't need to tell you the phone gag is good, but it is good, i need to know if he has ever managed to make a call himself on that thing. and then at the end, the shot of him in silhouette to push the developing mystery, and then holding on the ominous sinking bag? all tasty choices. good comic!

The first thing that stands out is your effective use of contrast at the start. The fact that you're only using 4 colours (black, white, and two shades of grey) does leave the comic feeling a little flat, but it also has given you the chance to make sure everything that should pop does. I especially like how you made Clyde stand out against a background that's the same colour as him by using backlighting to highlight his outline. Scale is also something done excellently well. First seeing the size of the crater he put in the wall, then making sure he is the largest object in every panel after that, getting bigger each time, really makes him seem intimidating. On that note, the fact that he has a pretty terrifying face, but the comic doesn't draw much attention to it shows that his fear factor isn't the most important part of him (not to forget the round and huggable shape of his design from the neck down.

Clyde's words are shown before his appearance is, and he has a well-mannered tone all throughout. When it comes to the writing, it's obvious that you've focused on the character aspect more than anything else, and I'd say that's a good call, because Clyde is quite possibly the strongest written character on the site up to this point, at least as far as introductions go. He's polite (as much as someone in his position can be) and is a driven individual who thinks through all his options and considers all aspects of his job, including how to get the most value out of his paycheque. He's an archetypical late 20th century salary worker, complete with a belief in company paternalism. It's a very subtle twist on the hitman/"cleaner" character, but drawing attention to that aspect of him in the biggest panel in the comic makes it impossible to miss. It's a simple to understand character (not boring or unoriginal, mind you) executed well.

In terms of entertainment, it might have been nice to see Clyde actually doing the fieldwork necessary to catch the perp, but this job clearly wasn't the most important part of the story going forwards, and it did set the groundwork for what to expect going forwards. I can easily accept that as preparation and build-up for what's to come, and I am very excited for what's to come.

Piñata

Love it love it! SUUUCH personality panel to panel, and I'm not just talking the characters. I feel we learned more about both Clyde and the hapless ne'er do well through the details of the environment alone. That room was so chock full of juicy little details to pore over! IT's clear you had alotta fun designing the layout!
Speaking of design, Clyde s no exception. I think you've successfully discovered that sweet spot where this character can look goofy and endearing, but also be nigh intimidating. Especially in the panel where they're asking which way this poor bastard wants to die- hoo! Got goosebumps!
I seriously can't wait for more and who this big-ol-buggo fights first! Great comic!

Kipp

Ohhhhhhhhh my. My oh my, this comic is just beautiful, and such a beautiful setup for a character and for later rounds. The tiny little phone is just so funny to me. This character is already so cool and it really makes me excited to have the slightest possibility of fighting you in anything. Like this writing is just beautiful. You art is INCREDIBLE. And this is just all about and all around a stellar comic. Your way of doing sound effects in this comic really is just something else and it really tickles that part in the back of my brain. Thank you for such an incredible comic :).

Eric

A very excellent first showing on the site! I'm extremely intrigued by this grubby dude and these oddjobs he seems to get up to. Your line quality is really strong in this comic - very sketchy in a way that has a ton of character behind it and the simple grays are working wonders for you on this. I super love the way you did the buildings, that final panel on the first page in particular has a ton of character to it and I like how you handled the paneling on that. I am curious to see how his character develops in the tournament since despite being a bad guy, he doesn't seem like a villain to me yet. Perhaps the lack of a readable face helps hides his general intentions and mood on stuff, which works great in this format because any potential sarcasm or layers of deception for the reader. I think that will be an asset for you with this character and I'm super excited to see more from you. Fantastic work.

As a side note, your work in this comic is reminding me a lot of this graphic novel I've read before called Fogtown. I recommend it, there might be things in there that you find agreeable with the kind of stories you may want to tell with Clyde here.

Prometheus

A good service to the overall lore of junction and the world in which the character resides, with each character feeling like they come with their own slice of reality, the world that Clyde represents is already given off in a fantastic way that highlights the tone and direction of the character in an easy to understand and entertaining way! Efficient, effective writing for a perfect 2 page setup, topped off with easy to read values making this not only a fun read but one with perfect clarity in the art, understanding each thing that i was seeing at any given moment! ENCORE.

snager

this is a very interesting character design and I like the way the backgrounds do a lot of the story telling for you. like it's a dark, weird city. either a catastrophe made it look like its sinking, or it's just barely coming into formation from the abyss. and interesting and poetic setting for one of the first Oculama comics, sure to be easy to build off of for others in the future.
that all being said, I'm confused on what the two characters are arguing about, and therefore whose side to be on. But I think the offhand comment Clyd makes about turning on the company that pays you probably lets me know he's just a real piece of work all the way around.
The art style is really nice, almost nostalgic, but I can't put my finger on what for. Just the comics nostalgia? anyway gr8 wrk!
